During a Howard Stern interview yesterday, Alec Baldwin said that he would not have a difficult time beating president Trump in the 2020 election if he chose to run. "If I ran, I would win. Hands down, I would win. It would be the funniest, most exciting, crazy campaign," he exclaimed.
"I would absolutely win. One thousand percent." He cited, in jest, his responsibilities as host of the Match Game, and his marriage, as obstacles to actually campaigning.
It's a boast he's made before. During a speech at George Washington University last year, Baldwin told the crowd "Would I think I'd be a good president? Yeah, I think I'd be a good president. To run for office is something that I want to do... doesn't seem to be practical with my lifestyle and my children."
Prior to that speech, he also once tweeted, "If I run for a President, think of how entertaining the debates would be."
Alec Baldwin won an Emmy for his impersonation of Trump on Saturday Night Live somehow. He still claims that he's only floating the idea of a presidential run as a joke. He says that "people don't really have a sense yet" of who Trump's opposition will be in the upcoming election.
"Somebody great is going to come up, I hope. I'd love to run for that kind of position to just have things be very common sense. There are so many things that this country needs to do that are so obvious."
During the Stern interview, Baldwin also claims that Melania Trump secretly likes his impression of her husband. "She must know what a maniac he is," he remarked.
