Elle Macpherson Dragged For Promoting Meal Replacement Shakes

Celebs |

Elle Macpherson has made people angry by recommending women try protein shake meal replacements in order to lose weight for summer. The 54-year-old model went on "The Morning," a British talk show, to give her fans dieting tips.

She described part of her weight loss regimen as drinking a lot of protein shakes, and said that sometimes she makes meals out of them.

"Sometimes I'll use it as a meal replacement in the evenings. If I've had a really strong breakfast or a strong lunch I can get away with having a protein shake for dinner."

She did make clear that she only thought shakes should be used as meal replacements as a temporary weight loss measure, not as a long-term lifestyle choice.

A lot of people were still angry, saying that she shouldn't be telling women to not eat meals. People were also angry that she would suggest people should change their weight levels.

Macpherson has remained silent in the wake of Shakegate. Probably a wise move.

Elle Macpherson is Australian-born. In addition to being a supermodel, she is also a TV host and actress.

She became famous from five cover appearances on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, a record. Time nicknamed her "The Body" in 1989. Between 2010 and 2013, she was the host and executive producer of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. She is also an executive producer on Fashion Star on NBC, and hosted the first season.

Macpherson is also recognizable from her role on Friends. She hosted an episode of SNL and has appeared in multiple films, including The Mirror Has Two Faces, Batman and Robin, The Edge and South Kensington.
