Alan O'Neill, the actor who played Hugh on Sons of Anarchy, has been reported dead at age 47 of as yet unknown causes. His girlfriend found him in the hallway of her apartment in Los Angeles late last night.
O'Neill has reportedly struggled with heart problems, as well as substance abuse and smoking. These factors may have contributed to his death.
O'Neill played Hugh on Sons of Anarchy for seven episodes. The show ran for seven seasons, ending in 2014. Before there was Hugh, O'Neill had a recurring role on the Irish television show Fair City. Fair City is the most popular soap opera in Ireland. It has had 28 seasons and counting.
Charlie Hunnam appreciation
Annette Walsh, O'Neill's agent, issued this statement about his death: "It's with sadness I confirm the passing of Alan O'Neill, a brilliant funny and kind human being. My thoughts are with his partner, children, family and friends at this time. I'll personally miss knowing Alan isn't sharing the planet with us any longer, despite the miles between L.A. and Dublin. Alan was only ever a phone call away. May he rest in peace."
This is the second recent tragedy to strike the cast of Sons of Anarchy. Last month, David Labrava's son, only sixteen years old, committed suicide.
