Today the Kardashians announced that they will be axing their apps. The Kim Kardashian West App, the Kourtney Kardashian App, the Khloe Kardashian Official App and the Kylie Jenner Official App will no longer be available for download.
The family released a joint statement calling their history with the apps an "incredible experience." Their reasons for removing them are still unclear. The apps have been in use since 2015.
The apps cost three dollars. Assuredly, the decision probably reflects cost-benefit analysis. Enough people are probably not willing to pay for a Kardashian app to justify the upkeep expenses.
Celebrity apps saw a boom a couple years back and appear to be on their way out. They were a seemingly good way for celebrities to further monetize their personal brands, providing exclusive content to their fans, for a fee. The end of the Kardashian apps, some of the most popular among the celebrity apps, may signal the end of that era.
The Kardashians will still be more than available on free social media platforms. They all have carefully managed accounts that are updated frequently. They are also still at the forefront of pop culture. You need have no fear that they're going anywhere.
